Upcycling Bottle Glass Through 3D Printing.

June 2023

Why recycle glass?

The unfortunate reality is that most glass waste ends up in landfills. Not only does using recycled glass help to reduce this waste, it is also more energy-efficient than melting virgin raw material, making it more sustainable. We want to leverage our expertise in glass making technology to recycle this material into captivating design objects for your home.

Why Bombay Sapphire?

When approaching the question of 'What does colored 3D printed glass look like?' we wanted to do more than just add color. We believe that the world needs objects that do more than just look pretty. This is why we've set out to repurpose a beautiful material into something useful again.

Printer nozzle upgrades

We’re completing an overhaul of the nozzle assembly of our printer to optimize it for recycling glass at production volumes. This requires designing and building advanced new components for the printer.

A craftperson's touch

Like all of our objects, every piece is finished by a glass cold worker. Recycled glass is no exception. In fact, this process allows us to better understand how to work with recycled glass through hands-on experience.

Upcycled homewares

We are working on scaling production of 3D printed upcycled bottle glass homewares like the Sapphire 'Flourish' bookend seen below.

A more beautiful and sustainable future

Our goal is not only to create new and innovative products using recycled material, but also to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and waste reduction. We believe that by working together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a more sustainable future.
